Most of the EGI website is restricted to members.
If you'd like to obtain a user ID to this site, therefore, you'll need to join the Grotto first--which isn't all that difficult. Basically, all you have to do is prove yourself to be committed to cave conservation and to safe caving practices. We've set up some simple guidelines that will help us get to know you better and see if you've got the right stuff. Here's what we'll need to see:
--attendance at three consecutive meetings;
--participation in at least one work trip (surveying, clean-up, etc.);
--current NSS membership;
--sponsorship by three current members who have caved with you.
Once you're voted in (and pay your $10/year dues), you'll be given a membership card, a subscription to our quarterly newsletter (The Desert Caver), and a user ID and password to access the EGI website.
Among the advantages of the EGI website are:
- access to active online
discussions in which both beginning and accomplished local cavers participate;
- search the Grotto's library records for books, magazines, newsletters, and videos that you'd like to check out;
- access to the Desert Caver Online library, a collection of thrity years worth of southern Arizona caving news, reviews, and information
